Home — Can Modern USA Be Considered A Christian Society?

Published: March, 2016.

Is USA a christian society?

The majority of Americans identify themselves as being christian. According to a 2014 study by the Pew Research Center, 70.6% of the American population identified themselves as Christians.

The constitution also secures religious freedom and prohibits a state religion.

While the majority of the people identify as christian there are a many signs that USA as a society is not practicing what it preaches so to speak.

American capitalism: Jesus asked that his followers give up all of their possessions to follow him. Today people are very much occupied by trying to get as much money as they can. "How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God...It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." (Mark 10:21-24) .

American consumerism

American welfare: Jesus called for the people to help out the poorest members of the community. Some people help out others, but most expect the welfare state to take care of the problems of the poorest.

American warfare: Jesus was against aggression and war. He wanted dialog instead. You should not want an eye for an eye.

American marriages: There are a lot of divorces and family life is some cases turned upside down. The new modern idea is that all sorts of family configurations should be allowed.

It not that Americans are all bad, it is also the same in many other western countries, but the point is that the christian believes are more talk than action.
